Magic & Art

Magic. Illusion. Objects that disappear and reappear. Things that seem to be there but really are not, always kept me dazzled. It all defied human logic. And yet, there it was, to mystify and discombobulate our senses.

Poets and writers deal with imagery all the time. They create worlds of their own and transport us by thought into special places as composers do....weaving emotions that often bring tears rolling down our faces. None of these things are really happening and yet, we're swept along by the MAGIC.

One of the biggest bangs I ever had was to hold a motion picture reel in my hand..even touch a frame or two with my fingers which brought me instantly in touch with the characters...all wound up on a spool of adventure. All that was needed to bring the thing to life would be to slip the film into and through the filmgate and turn on the switch. TALK ABOUT MAGIC!! Everyone sprang to life. The sounds came blasting out of the loud speakers and we were all transported instantly, to a very different place. Artists can do that. We're all faced with a blank sheet of paper, and calling upon a certain kind of knowhow, we're able to bring on magic that in time fill the page.

The real thrill is to be drawn into it all yourself as the artist and as much as possible convince the reader that they also are in the same place!
