Drawing with Words
When I was a wee tot, the word 'maybe' meant, more than likely, YES. The other phrase 'I'll think it over' was just as hopeful. To me, both of these were pretty much bankable. 'I Promise' was as good as DEFINITELY. As I grew older, another one of these lexicons crept into our language....'Don't Worry About It'. This one got me thinking! What I discovered over time is that if I heard 'don't worry about it', ..I better WORRY ABOUT IT! And as the years have passed, 'I'll think about it' is now "NO". The same goes for 'Maybe'....maybe means "NO". It's very difficult and sometimes embarassing to flat out say 'no'. 'Maybe', 'I'll think about' are far easier. They allow us to ease away from a commitment and return to it another day. STILL, I hate these little 'phrases' and I wish there were just more YES's!!
