In addition to the wonderful foreword & afterword mentioned above, the book is divided into 4 main sections: the Early Years, Superheroes, Horror, Odds & Ends (which looks at Western, Romance, Crime, War Comics, etc.). Each of these sections is loaded with examples of both published & unpublished drawings, many reproduced directly from Gene's pencils. In addition, each of these sections includes essays by Gene and pieces of interview related to that section. There are pinup galleries & even character design notes in some sections. The Early Years section also includes some never before seen prototypes of strips or series that never saw print and some drawings of Gene's family from some of his earliest work.
This book was thoughtfully & lovingly laid out by Tina & Matt Poslusny of Comic Book Profiles. A select few editions also include an exclusive signed bookplate (5 x 8" [12.5 x 20.5cm]) done by Gene in cooperation with Bud Plant Comic Art (shown on the right). An ideal book for any art or comic afficionado, and a must! for any Gene Colan fan. |

"Thanks to everyone who put out the Shadows Falling portfolio. I received my copy last week and can't resist the temptation to keep pulling the portfolio out and admire the pieces in it. I've already framed the gorgeous Daredevil vs. Stilt-Man piece and put it up in my "gallery" at work. I've gotten a number of compliments on it. People are always surprised to look at the city below DD and Stilty and see the tremendous detail and excitement in the page. I gave the Sherlock Holmes vs. Dracula page to my friend Mike, who's a huge Arthur Conan Doyle fan, and he absolutely raved about how Gene's Holmes looks like he stepped right out of the original books. Best of all for me is the in-joke of the panel where Gene autographs the portfolio. It makes me smirk every time I see it.This is a great package, and since Gene's not sketching right now, the only way I'm gonna have something close to a Colan original."
